New8, the international drama collaboration between eight public broadcasters, announced its new projects at Series Mania in Lille on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The partners – SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RÚV (Iceland), NRK (Norway), VRT (Flanders, Belgium), NPO (Netherlands) and ZDF (Germany) – have been working together since the fall of 2023 to produce high-quality series that reflect the values of public service media and appeal to a broad audience.
The second slate of projects chosen for coproduction once again showcases a diverse range of genres and topics. These include historical and social dramas, family stories, crime series, and mystery series. The selected projects are “Breendonk” (VRT, Belgium, 6×54 minutes), “Phoenix” (ZDF, Germany, 6×45 minutes), “The Machine” (NPO/BNNVARA, The Netherlands, 6×54 minutes), “Henki” (NRK, Norway, 6×45 minutes), “Cold Song” (SVT, Sweden, 6×45 minutes), “Generations” (DR, Denmark, 6×60 minutes), “Death of a Horse” (RÚV, Iceland, 6×52 minutes), and “The Dark Ones” (ZDF, Germany, 6×45 minutes).
The first series of the New8 collaboration have already been produced and have received both national and international recognition. These include “Vanguard” (SVT), “Elixir” (NPO), “Queen of fucking everything” (YLE), “Holmlia Love” (NRK), “Other People’s Money” (DR/ZDF), “This is not a murder mystery” (VRT), “Push” and “Kabul” (ZDF). “Push” has been awarded the German Television Award in 2024, while “Kabul” was recognized at Series Mania 2025 in the International Competition category. “Other People’s Money” was showcased at the Berlinale 2025 in the Panorama section, and “Generations” was also selected for Series Mania 2025 in the International Competition category.
