On January 13 and 21, 2025, the Munich District Court of Germany issued two acknowledgment judgments in favor of Nichia Corporation (“Nichia”) in relation to patent infringement lawsuits against Malaysia-based LED manufacturer Dominant Opto Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (“Dominant”). The court ruled in favor of Nichia and issued orders to cease sales, recall and destruct products, and compensate Nichia for damages.
The lawsuits involved Nichia’s patents EP2216834 and EP3267494, which protect core technology utilized in the field of automotive lighting and backlighting markets. These patents provide high luminance, high reliability, and high efficiency for LED products, specifically in the automotive headlight and exterior lighting markets.
The acknowledgment judgments were issued for Nichia’s claims of patent infringement by two Dominant LEDs, and the defendant, German electronic components distributor Endrich Bauelemente Vertriebs GmbH, was ordered to cease sales, recall and destruct the products, and provide information and rendering account.
The Munich District Court’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed, confirming Nichia’s claims of patent infringement. Nichia also holds family patents in various countries, including Japan, the United States, and China.
