On Thursday 16 October, 2025, We Are Survivors, a charity based in Greater Manchester, announced the launch of their latest edition of Beyond the Silence magazine. Along with this release, the organization is also proudly introducing their brand-new App, WE ARE OK, which aims to increase access to support for male victims/survivors of sexual harms.
The App, now live and available on the App Store and Google Play, is based on the popular OK+ platform but has been specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of male victims/survivors. The development of the App was informed by direct feedback from the men who have utilized We Are Survivors’ services.
Duncan Craig OBE, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of We Are Survivors, the largest male survivor organization in the UK, expressed his excitement for the launch of the App, saying, “It feels like such a full circle moment in launching this app. When I first spoke out about the sexual abuse I experienced, there was no support here in Greater Manchester for men and so I found my support online.” He went on to explain that the launch of the App is a return to the present day for both himself and the organization, as it marks the beginning of his own healing and acknowledges the important role of technology in supporting survivors.
The App launch coincides with the release of the latest edition of Beyond the Silence magazine, which focuses on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI). The team at We Are Survivors made a conscious effort to incorporate AI into the magazine, with many of the images and text being generated by AI. To ensure transparency, the team has included a badge to indicate which portions of the magazine are created by humans and which are generated by AI.
Grahame Robertson, Editor and Senior Design and Communications Co-Ordinator for We Are Survivors, shared his thoughts on working on this edition of the magazine, stating, “It’s been really strange working on this edition of the magazine. I’ve been a designer and involved in communications for over 25 years and it really does feel like AI and technology supported design is revolutionising the industry.” He went on to acknowledge the prevalence of AI in the world of sexual harms, both for positive and negative reasons.
The magazine features news on the NHS’s efforts to shift from analogue to digital and highlights Greater Manchester as the location where the first person was convicted of possessing indecent images generated by AI. It also includes a feature on We Are Survivors Ambassador and Hollyoaks actor, James Sutton, and his involvement with AI and technology. Additionally, the magazine concludes its 16th anniversary celebrations with the final installment of a 4-part series on the history of the organization. Readers can also find news and features on online support from the award-winning charity.
We Are Survivors is encouraging all male victims/survivors to download the App by searching “We Are OK” on the App Store or Google Play. The organization is dedicated to providing support and resources to those affected by sexual harms and hopes that the launch of their App will further their mission and reach even more individuals in need.
