Valancius offers some tips on how to stay safe on the internet, starting with the basics of using strong and unique passwords for each online account. He also recommends using multi-factor authentication whenever possible and taking advantage of alternative methods of authentication like passkeys, which are supported by major tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google.
In addition, Valancius emphasizes the importance of keeping devices up to date, avoiding clicking on suspicious links, and never disclosing personal information in response to unsolicited emails or messages. He also advises against using unprotected public Wi-Fi and instead using a virtual private network (VPN) for added security.
While the internet has brought about immense progress and innovation, it’s important to remember the potential dangers and take necessary precautions to stay safe online. As Valancius says, “Whatever happens next, we will leave digital artifacts behind us, and future archaeologists will probably want to excavate data centers, not just the soil.
