Pace CCS, Foxconn, and TEWE have announced a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at solving a critical CCS challenge.

LONDON, UK, MARCH 19, 2025 – A groundbreaking collaboration between three industry leaders is set to revolutionize carbon capture and storage (CCS). Pace CCS, the global leader in CCS design, has partnered with Foxconn, a renowned technology manufacturer, and TEWE (Taiwan East West Enterprises (CHEMA) Ltd.), a long-standing sales and service provider to Taiwan’s industrial sector, to develop an innovative chemical injection unit. This unit is designed to eliminate corrosive impurities from CO2 streams, reducing costs and accelerating the global deployment of CCS.

The collaboration aims to address the most pressing challenge in CCS – the removal of impurities that can cause corrosion in CCS networks. These impurities can trigger chemical reactions that produce water, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid, leading to severe corrosion in infrastructure. By eliminating these impurities, the collaboration aims to relax stringent specifications for CCS networks, making them more affordable, simpler to operate, and protecting them from corrosion.

Carbon capture and storage is a critical technology in the fight against climate change, as it enables industries to capture and store CO2 emissions before they enter the atmosphere. However, the corrosion issue has been a major barrier to its widespread adoption.

According to Matthew Healey, Managing Director of Pace CCS, this solution has been long-awaited by the CCS industry. “By turning a major technical challenge into a simple operational expense, we’re not only making CCS more viable but also accelerating its deployment globally. This is what the industry needs to make a real impact in the fight against climate change.”

The new chemical injection unit utilizes Foxconn’s expertise in precision manufacturing and semiconductor supply chains, combined with Pace CCS’s extensive knowledge of CCS design and TEWE’s 70 years of experience in industrial sales and service. This unique collaboration leverages technical knowledge from the semi-conductor industry and applies it to CCS, delivering a highly effective and scalable solution.

The solution has broad applicability for CCS industrial hubs set to launch across Europe, Asia, Australasia, and North America in the coming decade. By addressing the corrosion issue, the collaboration aims to make CCS more accessible and affordable, helping industries worldwide meet their decarbonization goals.

Ron R. T. Horng, Hon Hai Foxconn’s Chief Environment Officer and Chairman of Green Facility Committee in SemiĀ®, China, expressed the company’s pride in contributing to the energy transition and carbon reduction through this collaboration. “This partnership is a testament to how cross-industry partnerships can drive meaningful progress in the fight against climate change and develop leading-edge technology,” he said.

TEWE, with its reputation for reliability and service, will play a crucial role in ensuring the solution meets the needs of industrial clients. Nancy Chen, TEWE’s General Manager, stated, “For nearly 70 years, TEWE has been committed to supporting Taiwan’s industrial growth, and this collaboration allows us to contribute to a global solution that will benefit industries far beyond our borders.”

This partnership between Pace CCS, Foxconn, and TEWE represents a long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability. By combining their respective strengths, the three companies are poised to set a new standard for CCS technology, paving the way for a cleaner, more sustainable future.
