Patrick utilizes his pedal power to embark on a 3,000km challenge.

A charity trustee is embarking on an extraordinary endurance challenge in support of local Cumbrian communities. Patrick Boggon, a trustee of the Cumbria Community Foundation, has chosen to celebrate his 60th birthday by cycling the entire length of Scandinavia.

This incredible feat will cover a staggering 3,000 kilometers and will begin this Sunday, July 13th, in the Arctic Circle. Patrick hopes to reach northern Germany by September, all while raising funds for the Sharing Fund, a newly established fund managed by the Community Foundation. The Sharing Fund provides support for individuals and community groups in Cumbria who are facing real challenges such as hardship, isolation, or simply needing a helping hand to get back on their feet.

Patrick has set a goal of raising £5,000 for the Sharing Fund through his cycling journey. And thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, all donations up to £5,000 will be matched pound for pound, effectively doubling the impact of each donation.

In explaining his motivation for taking on this challenge, Patrick stated, “Enjoying an adventure while giving back to my community seems like a meaningful and fitting way to mark my 60th birthday. Cumbria has been my home for the past 30 years, and my daughters and I have been fortunate to receive help during difficult times. It only feels right to give back to the county that has given us so much and help others in need.”

Caroline Adams, Development Manager at Cumbria Community Foundation, expressed her admiration for Patrick’s dedication to the cause. She said, “We are thrilled that Patrick has chosen to embark on this epic European challenge in support of Cumbrian communities in need. As a volunteer and trustee, Patrick has already given a great deal of his time and expertise to support the Foundation. To also take on this grueling cycle challenge is truly remarkable.”
