Paul Griffiths, a CMV Action patron, was recently awarded an MBE in the Kings Birthday Honours for his contributions to the organization.

CMV Action’s Patron, Emeritus Professor of Virology at University College London, Paul Griffiths, has been awarded an MBE on King Charles III’s Birthday Honours List for his contributions to virology. The prestigious award recognizes Professor Griffiths’ extensive research and expertise in the field of medical virology, particularly in his work on CMV.

Throughout his professional career, Professor Griffiths has earned an international reputation for his in-depth understanding of the effects of viruses on patients and their families. His book, The Stealth Virus, is dedicated to those affected by CMV and those working towards eradicating it.

In addition to his research on CMV, Professor Griffiths has also been instrumental in the development of a new diagnostic test for congenital CMV and the prevention of CMV disease in transplant patients. Through his involvement with CMV Action, he has also raised awareness about CMV infection and its impact.

“I am surprised and delighted to be notified of this award, which showcases the work of the whole research team over many years. I hope it will bring attention to the problems CMV causes and stimulate interest in further developing the candidate vaccines we have at present,” shared Professor Griffiths upon receiving the news of his MBE.
