Work has officially begun on the construction of nine new affordable homes in Perranwell Station, a village located between Truro and Falmouth. The project is being undertaken by social landlord Coastline Housing and is being funded by grants from Homes England and Cornwall Council.
Representatives from Coastline Housing were joined by outgoing local councillor Peter Williams and newly elected councillor Ruth Gripper for the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday 7 July, 2025. Mr. Williams, who had been working closely with Coastline Housing on this 100% affordable bungalow project, expressed his pleasure at seeing the development finally come to fruition. He was also delighted to have Cllr Gripper, his successor, join him for the event.
The new homes will consist of five properties for social rent and four for shared ownership. Cllr Gripper commented, “I’m really happy to see work beginning on this development of bungalows for Perranwell Station. It’s exactly the sort of housing that local people need, whether they are downsizing or looking for their first home while staying in the community. I’m excited to see the project take shape over the coming weeks and months.”
Mr. Williams, who had been working on the project for several years before passing it on to Cllr Gripper, added, “I’m very much looking forward to seeing people from the local parish apply for and live in these homes. I hope they will all be happy here for years to come.”
The bungalows, being constructed by local contractor EBC Partnerships, are expected to be completed by spring of next year.
