“PLAN-B NET ZERO Transforms the Energy Transition into an Economically Viable Revenue Source, Shifting from Grid Load to Profitability.”

Berlin-based GreenTech startup, PLAN-B NET ZERO BESS GmbH, a subsidiary of PLAN-B NET ZERO AG, has showcased how its battery energy storage systems (BESS) can benefit businesses and private households. The company specializes in innovative energy storage solutions and is at the forefront of the energy transition.

According to PLAN-B NET ZERO, their BESS systems can help customers profit from the growing imbalance between very low and very high prices on the electricity exchange (EEX). This was demonstrated at a recent event in Berlin on Wednesday 3 September, 2025.

The company’s CEO, Bradley Mundt, explained how their technology can turn negative electricity prices into profit for end customers. He stated, “Our technology has reliably delivered resilience and self-consumption optimization for years. Today it proves its true value by turning the market’s biggest challenge – the oversupply of renewable energy – into a direct opportunity for our customers.”

Germany’s rapid expansion of renewable energy has led to a paradox where on sunny and windy days, there is an oversupply of electricity in the grid. This has caused wholesale prices to drop below zero, meaning producers have to pay to deliver their output. In the second quarter of 2025, there were over 345 hours of negative prices recorded, with a record low of -€250.32 per MWh at the EEX.

However, with PLAN-B NET ZERO’s BESS systems, equipped with intelligent measurement and control units, customers can benefit from these negative prices. When prices turn negative, the storage units automatically charge, and the stored electricity is then discharged when prices rise again or when their own demand increases. This process, known as energy arbitrage, creates new, stable revenue streams for customers.

Based on extensive modeling, PLAN-B NET ZERO has shown that a typical BESS for prosumers and commercial enterprises can pay for itself in less than five years. After that, the system not only generates steady additional income but also provides energy independence and reliable emergency power supply.

The company’s aim is to put more market power in the hands of end customers, accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels, and enable a more efficient, decentralized energy system. Julia Schnitger, spokesperson for PLAN-B NET ZERO, stated, “We are proving that a greener future can also be an economically successful one.”
