Father and son duo Paul and Joshua Barnes have officially launched PlayZer Media Ltd, a grassroots music company dedicated to discovering and promoting new musical talent across the South of England.
Fusing their individual talents and shared passion for music, PlayZer Media is fast becoming known for delivering high-quality live events and offering real opportunities for unsigned artists.
Talent, Passion, and Perseverance
Joshua Barnes, a decorated guitarist and music promoter, is known for his technical brilliance and dynamic stage presence. Over the past five years, he’s earned multiple industry accolades and has more recently become a trusted promoter, curating standout line-ups and fostering new acts.
Paul Barnes brings life experience and technical rigour to the team. After suffering a life-altering attack in 2005 and undergoing years of rehabilitation, Paul rebuilt his life through sobriety and creative learning. The spark for PlayZer first emerged during a sound production course in 2007, and his return to music with Joshua has since blossomed into a growing business.
With Paul’s engineering background and Joshua’s performance credentials, the company now offers a strong blend of practical knowledge and musical insight.
Rapid Growth and Big Ambitions
PlayZer hosted its first event in September 2024 and has expanded rapidly ever since. With significant investment in sound and lighting equipment, they’ve already collaborated with international acts from France and the USA in early 2025 — building recognition beyond the UK.
Full-Service, Artist-Focused Events
From sourcing talent and booking venues to delivering top-tier sound production, PlayZer provides a full-service offering. Their work spans beloved local venues such as The King Theatre in Southsea and The Hobbit Pub in Southampton, as well as larger spaces including 1865 Southampton and The Guildhall in Portsmouth.
Now, the pair are gearing up for their most ambitious venture yet: Battle of the Bands 2026, a major regional competition aimed at unsigned artists across the South. With promotional efforts underway in music shops and community spaces, the project will include band intros, public showcases, and a full calendar of events designed to put new talent on the map.
