Male sexual abuse charity, We Are Survivors, has launched its first ever magazine, Beyond The Silence, with the help of Richard Gadd, creator of the Netflix hit series Baby Reindeer. The quarterly publication aims to create a space for important discussions on male victims and survivors of sexual abuse, rape, and exploitation.
Grahame Robertson, the magazine’s editor, explains that the organization’s vision is to create a society where no male survivor is left behind. In order to achieve this bold vision, a bold approach was needed to get people talking. The magazine replaces the previous newsletter format and is packed with the latest news from the sexual violence sector, updates on the organization’s digital campaigns, and a tour of their new community space.
The first issue of Beyond The Silence features Richard Gadd as its cover star. Gadd has been an ambassador for We Are Survivors for around a decade, using his platform as a writer, comedian, actor, and now creator of the popular Netflix series, to stand with male survivors and support their cause. In an exclusive interview with the magazine, Gadd discusses the positive impact Baby Reindeer has had and why he is a proud supporter of We Are Survivors. He also opens up about how using his own experience as a survivor has been cathartic and how a conversation with the organization’s founder, Duncan Craig OBE, helped him understand the importance of support for male survivors from a first-hand perspective.
The magazine is available for free and can be obtained by signing up on the organization’s website. Beyond The Silence is a crucial step towards creating an open and inclusive dialogue about the often overlooked issue of male sexual abuse. With the support of individuals like Richard Gadd, We Are Survivors hopes to continue breaking the silence and providing support for all male survivors.
