Scotland is prepared for de-colonisation, according to reports.

Scottish Sovereignty Research Group (SSRG) to Hold 3-Day Conference on Scotland’s Constitutional Position

The Scottish Sovereignty Research Group (SSRG) will be hosting a three-day conference on Scotland’s constitutional position at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline, Scotland from May 16th to May 18th, 2025. The event will feature guest speakers from various fields, including academics, lawyers, economists, and politicians.

The conference will cover a wide range of subjects, such as Pensions and Social Security, A Scottish Currency & A Scottish Central Bank, and the Energy Sector. However, the highlight of the event will be the presentation of a legal opinion during the Saturday afternoon session titled “Decolonisation & Self Determination.” This opinion is expected to cast doubt on the official constitutional understanding of the United Kingdom and argue that Scotland should qualify for the UN Decolonisation process, joining countries like India, Pakistan, Ghana, and Malaya.

The UK government has consistently denied Scotland the right to hold a democratic referendum on its continued union with England since 2014. Both former Prime Ministers Theresa May and Boris Johnson have repeatedly stated that “now is not the time” for such a vote. However, David Henry, Director and Chairman of the SSRG, believes that “now is the time” for Scotland to take control of its future. He stated, “How can anyone claim that Scotland is in a voluntary union with England when Scots are refused permission to hold a democratic vote? Many countries have ended British rule, but Scotland seems to be trapped in a unique position, being told it is in a union of equals with England while still needing permission from its neighbor to end an abusive marriage. Clearly, this makes no sense, and it’s long overdue for Scotland to take its future into its own hands.”

The SSRG’s conference, titled “The Next Steps,” is expected to draw hundreds of delegates from across Scotland. They will discuss and debate important policy areas, including whether Scotland has ever been in a voluntary union with England. This will be the second three-day conference hosted by the SSRG, with the first one being held in 2022 and described by the Scottish newspaper The National as “groundbreaking.”

Sara Salyers, co-founder of Liberation Scotland and Salvo with over 18,000 members, will be presenting a session on De-Colonisation. She stated, “After over two years of research and gathering expert advice and legal opinion, we are finally able to confidently make the case for Scotland to join the many independent countries listed by the UN C24 Committee for De-colonisation. The Scottish political classes have failed to understand that a country doesn’t ask for permission to end colonisation; it simply demands it. Now is our time to demand Scotland is listed for De-Colonisation.”

The conference will also be live-streamed on YouTube, with many overseas observers expected to join the delegates.
