A new study released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed that a majority of people in Europe feel unsafe when walking alone. In response to this, safety experts Callie and ADT have joined forces to create a pioneering new app that helps to provide users with a greater sense of security.
The free Callie app allows the user to create a ‘session’ that is then shared with chosen ‘guardians’, such as friends, parents or partners. This session includes details of the user’s activity, such as the duration and purpose, and guardians can track the user’s location and signal and battery strength. If the user fails to check in as safe before the session ends, an alert is sent out to the chosen guardians.
As an extra layer of protection, CalliePlus is a premium safety monitoring service powered by security giants ADT. This service provides 24/7 support to users in potentially dangerous situations.
Callie’s spokesperson commented, “With Callie, we wanted to expand [ADT’s] trusted protection to wherever people are, whatever they’re doing.”
Privacy and security are key elements of the app, with no round-the-clock tracking, no ads, no creepy data mining and no back-door snooping.
The app has been designed to provide a compromise between parents and children, with kids allowed to create a session when they’re out but then check in as safe and leave it off. Gen-Z and Millennial users have praised how Callie offers a sense of security without feeling like they’re being tracked by their parents.
Callie was built from the ground up by safety experts Safepoint, and is also backed by security brand ADT.
