London, UK – SocialBox.Biz, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable re-use, is making a difference in the lives of the elderly community by providing them with refurbished laptops and MacBooks. The organization is now urging more companies and organizations to contact them before scrapping their old, no longer needed but still usable tech.
SocialBox.Biz has been working towards reducing electronic waste and supporting the environment by securely wiping and upgrading old tech with open-source software. The refurbished items are then delivered to Age UKs in London, providing the elderly community with access to technology and bridging the digital divide.
“We are calling on companies to consider their impact on the environment and the community before disposing of their old tech,” said a spokesperson for SocialBox.Biz. “By working with us, companies can reduce their carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the lives of those who cannot afford hardware or software.”
In addition to providing refurbished laptops and MacBooks to the elderly community, SocialBox.Biz also offers basic computer classes and tech labs, sponsored by companies who want to make a difference in their community. This initiative not only benefits the environment but also helps reduce scope 3 emissions from old tech.
“We urge companies to include SocialBox.Biz in their sustainability strategy and make a difference in their community,” added the spokesperson. “By partnering with us, companies can create a positive social impact and support our self-sustaining social enterprise.”
With the constant advancements in technology, many companies and organizations often find themselves with a surplus of old laptops and MacBooks. Instead of disposing of them, SocialBox.Biz is urging these companies to contact them and see if the items can still be reused for a good cause.
Even companies and organizations without old tech to contribute are encouraged to join this initiative and make a difference in the lives of the elderly and other disadvantaged individuals. Age UK Westminster shared a case study on January 31, 2025, highlighting the impact of SocialBox.Biz’s pre-Christmas Tech Lab on one of their clients.
“One client had his laptop stolen when he left his window open in his ground floor flat. He was really appreciative of the laptop provided by SocialBox.Biz,” wrote Age UK Westminster.
Companies and organizations interested in participating in the impact plans can visit the SocialBox.Biz website for more information. Together, we can make a positive impact on the environment and the community.
