“Solar Efficiency Records Set to Revolutionize the Future of Homeowners with Back Contact and Tandem Technology”

On Wednesday 4 June, 2025, solar technology leader Longi announced two groundbreaking achievements in solar efficiency that are set to revolutionize the industry. These achievements were independently verified by Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH) and are now officially recognized as world records.

The first record was set with Longi’s use of heterojunction interdigitated back contact (HIBC) technology, which reached an impressive 27.81% efficiency in a monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic cell. This is the highest efficiency ever achieved for this type of cell, highlighting the company’s innovative approach to solar technology.

At the same time, Longi also achieved a new world record with its Tandem solar technology, which combines silicon and perovskite layers to reach a confirmed 34.85% cell efficiency. This breakthrough in efficiency is a major step forward in the industry and offers a glimpse into the future of solar power.

These achievements are not only significant for the solar market, but also for homeowners looking to invest in solar panels. With the use of Back Contact technology, more electricity can be generated from smaller surfaces, making it a more powerful and compact option for home energy independence. Additionally, the Tandem technology offers improved aesthetics with no visible front-side wiring and better performance in varying light conditions.

Nadine Buetow, a representative from Longi, stated, “Solar panels are no longer just a tool for cutting electricity bills. They are becoming a long-term investment in home energy independence. And with every jump in solar cell efficiency, that investment becomes more powerful, compact, and future-ready.”

As Longi continues to push the boundaries of solar technology, homeowners can look forward to more efficient and aesthetically pleasing options for their rooftops. For more information on Longi’s achievements and future developments, please visit eu.longi.com.
