REUSE Foundation, a UK-based registered charity, has launched a global creativity competition called “Refill, Not Landfill!” inviting students and young people aged 16-25 to join the fight against plastic pollution. The campaign, which was officially launched on Saturday 22 November 2025, aims to educate and inspire individuals to rethink their consumption habits and promote the importance of reuse in reducing plastic waste.
According to REUSE Foundation, recycling alone is not enough to solve the environmental crisis caused by single-use plastics, as most of it still ends up in landfills or incinerated. The foundation believes that the power to spark change lies in the hands of young people and through this campaign, they hope to mobilize their creativity and passion to accelerate the shift towards reuse.
“Refill, Not Landfill!” is a social media-based challenge where participants are asked to create a short video, meme, or carousel that educates and inspires others to take action in reducing plastic waste. The content should showcase why plastic recycling is failing, the need to move beyond single-use plastics, and the strength of reuse as a solution. The competition is open to individuals or teams worldwide, with a age restriction of 16-25 years old. The entry is free and participants are encouraged to use the provided Refill, Not Landfill! logo and tag REUSE Foundation on their posts. The campaign window will run from 22 November 2025 to 30 June 2026, with winners being announced on or before 30 July 2026.
The total prize money for the competition is at least £1,000, with a potential to increase up to £5,000 depending on donations. The judging criteria will be based on creativity and originality (40%), clarity of message (30%), and potential for impact and engagement (30%). The foundation hopes that through this campaign, they can bring attention to the urgent issue of plastic pollution and inspire young people to take action in their own communities.
REUSE Foundation, which is focused on promoting practical and scalable solutions to reduce plastic waste, believes that this campaign will help accelerate the shift towards reuse. The foundation also supports other initiatives such as “Sponsor a Village” which aims to demonstrate the viability of reuse in low-income communities in India, and “Bottles for Good” which works with refill stores in the UK to make discounted refillable packaging available.
