The Royal Forestry Society is seeking to recognize outstanding woodlands and forestry projects in Central and Eastern England through its Excellence in Forestry Awards this year.
The RFS, led by Chief Executive Christopher Williams, aims to bring attention to exceptional woodlands and projects in the region, as well as promote the importance of skilled forestry management and education in the face of climate change.
In a statement, Williams emphasized the significance of managing woodlands and forests effectively in the current era of climate change and the need for a skilled workforce to ensure the adaptability of landscapes and the understanding of future generations.
The competition consists of five categories, including The Duke of Cornwall’s Award for Resilient Multi-Purpose Forestry, The Bede Howell Award for Excellence in Silviculture, Small and Farm Woodland of the Year Award, Education and Learning Award, and Community Woodland of the Year Award.
Entries are open to Royal Forestry Society members in the Nottingham/Lincolnshire, Midlands, East Anglia, and North West Midlands Divisions, as well as non-members across the region. The deadline for submissions is April 30.
The awards are sponsored by Savills, Trees Please, Tilhill, Forestry Journal, Woodland Trust, PEFC, and FSC.
