The announcement of the Guru Nanak Junior Research Fellowship, supported by Singh Sabha Southall, has been made by the University of Oxford.

The University of Oxford has announced the establishment of the Guru Nanak Junior Research Fellowship at Wolfson College in a groundbreaking development for the study of Sikh teachings and Panjab. This initiative has been made possible by generous donations from various organizations, including the renowned Sikh organization, Sri Guru Singh Sabha Southall.

Wolfson College, known for its extensive research in South Asian studies, has recognized the need for deeper exploration of Sikhi and Punjab. The Guru Nanak Junior Research Fellowship is a significant step towards bridging this academic gap at Oxford.

Mr. Himmat Singh Sohi, President of Singh Sabha Southall, expressed his delight at the successful fundraising of £180,000, which has enabled the launch of the fellowship for an initial period of three years. “We are immensely proud and honored to contribute significantly to the establishment of this fellowship,” Mr. Sohi stated.

Mr. Bhinder, Vice President of Singh Sabha, echoed this sentiment and emphasized the Sabha’s longstanding commitment to education. “Education has always been a cornerstone of the Singh Sabha movement. This fellowship at the University of Oxford is a testimony to our unwavering dedication to this legacy,” said Mr. Bhinder.

The Sabha’s General Secretary, Mr. Harmeet Singh Gill, further highlighted the organization’s dedication to promoting the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji through educational initiatives, reaffirming their commitment to this principle.

Dr. Huw David, Development Director and Governing Body Fellow of Wolfson College, expressed his gratitude to Singh Sabha Southall for their generous donation of £140,329. “This philanthropic gesture will significantly contribute to the academic exploration and preservation of Guru Nanak’s teachings and traditions,” said Dr. David.

The Guru Nanak Junior Research Fellowship, distributed by Pressat, is a significant step towards furthering academic understanding of Sikh teachings and Panjab at one of the world’s most prestigious universities. The fellowship will undoubtedly pave the way for in-depth research and exploration of Sikhism and its cultural and social impact in Panjab and beyond.
