The Charity Golf Day Raises More Than £20k for Premature Babies.

Reading, UK – On Monday July 22, 2024, New Life Special Care Babies, a charitable organisation dedicated to supporting neonatal units across the UK, hosted its fifth annual charity golf day at the picturesque Calcot Park Golf Course. The event was a great success, with 104 participants and a post-match BBQ and auction hosted by popular comedian Aaron James. The event raised over £20,000 for the charity’s cause.

Founder of New Life Special Care Babies, Trevor Goodall, expressed his gratitude and reflected on the charity’s remarkable journey: “In 2021, we reached the incredible milestone of raising £1 million for our cause. This surpassed all of my expectations for the small charity I set up in 1995 in memory of my twin sons, Joshua and Samuel. Since then, we have organised numerous events and are now nearing the £2 million mark. Our funds have been used to purchase lifesaving equipment for neonatal units, including a ventilator for The Great Western Hospital in Swindon, a training manikin for Bristol, and a ventilator for The Royal Berks Hospital in Reading. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our generous sponsors, who have been incredibly supportive this year. A special shout-out goes to our main sponsor and contributor, Select Car Leasing.”

The event drew in several notable competitors, including Wimbledon FC FA Cup winners Lawrie Sanchez and Dave Beasant, as well as ex-Arsenal player Henri Lansbury. The winning team, the Rhyder Cup Team, consisted of Duncan Dyson, Webby, Steve Leggett, and John Kay.

The charity was established in 1995 after the premature birth and tragic loss of Trevor Goodall’s twin boys, Joshua and Samuel. Since then, the charity has raised a total of £1.7 million through various events, including charity golf days, balls, sponsored cycle rides, and other challenges. These funds have made a significant impact in aiding thousands of premature babies in neonatal units across the UK.
