London, UK – A new initiative, London Now Now, has been launched by social enterprise Do it Now Now (DiNN) to empower Black-led organisations and align with the Civil Society Covenant’s vision for collaboration between government and civil society.
With £1 million raised to fund the initiative, London Now Now aims to support ten London Boroughs in engaging all constituents and building strong partnerships with Black-led organisations. This programme addresses the challenges faced by Black-led organisations, ensuring they remain integral to delivering effective strategies in their communities.
According to Bayo Adelaja, CEO of Do it Now Now, “The Civil Society Covenant lays out a powerful framework for collaboration, and London Now Now is our answer to that call.” He further explains that by addressing systemic challenges, the programme delivers on the government’s hopes for an inclusive sector, positioning Black-led organisations as essential partners in driving local strategy and creating lasting impact.
Research has shown that local authority funding cuts have disproportionately affected charities, putting Black-led organisations at higher risk. However, these organisations remain critical in promoting social cohesion and providing services for underserved communities. London Now Now aims to equip Black-led organisations with resources, networks, and opportunities to thrive, helping councils meet the Covenant’s goals of promoting equity and amplifying diverse voices.
The initiative targets ten London Boroughs where Black-led organisations play a vital role in community infrastructure: Barking and Dagenham, Bexley, Greenwich, Hackney, Havering, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, and Waltham Forest. These Boroughs provide an opportunity to showcase the potential of aligning council and civil society efforts.
Do it Now Now is calling on Black leaders, charities, and social enterprises in these Boroughs to join London Now Now and become part of a movement that embodies the spirit of the Civil Society Covenant. Together, they can ensure that Black-led organisations are not only present but thriving as central contributors to local and national development strategies.
