DSM Foundation to be Featured on BBC Radio 4 Appeal to Raise Awareness and Funds for Drug Education
Drug education charity, the DSM Foundation, has announced that it will be featured on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal on Sunday, November 3rd. The appeal will run for a week, with broadcast times at 7:54am and 9:25pm on that Sunday, and again at 3:26pm on Thursday, November 7th. It will also be available on the BBC Radio 4 website and on BBC Sounds.
The DSM Foundation, founded following the death of 16-year-old Daniel Spargo-Mabbs caused by an accidental overdose of ecstasy, is headed by his mother Fiona. As the founder and director of the charity, Fiona Spargo-Mabbs OBE is well-equipped to explain the importance of drug education for young people and the impact it has on their lives.
Grace McCormack, Corporate and Community Fundraiser for the DSM Foundation, stated, “It is a huge privilege for the DSM Foundation to be featured on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal. Not only will it raise awareness of the issues faced by young people when it comes to drugs, but also the work we do to support them to make safer choices.” The charity provides workshops for students and adults and also offers a play, ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die’ by award-winning playwright Mark Wheeller, which tells Daniel’s story.
The DSM Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to be featured on the BBC Radio 4 Appeal and hopes to raise valuable funds to support their drug education work. A group of supporters has generously agreed to match fund £12,000 of donations that come in through this appeal.

Established in 2014, the DSM Foundation aims to provide young people with relevant, age-appropriate, and evidence-based information about drugs so they can make informed decisions to keep themselves and their friends safe. The charity works with almost 750 schools, colleges, and community organizations to reach children and young people. They also offer workshops for parents and caregivers and training for school and college staff. The DSM Foundation also commissioned a play, ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die,’ to tell Daniel’s story, which can be studied as a GCSE Drama set text or through a Theatre in Education performance. Schools and colleges can also access free, age-appropriate, and evidence-based drugs education lesson resources from the DSM Foundation website.
