The European Journalism Centre has announced the recipients of the 2024 Climate Journalism Award.

Copenhagen, Denmark – The European Journalism Centre (EJC) is pleased to announce the winners of the 2024 Climate Journalism Award, honoring outstanding reporting on climate change and its impact. The award ceremony, held at the News Impact Summit in Copenhagen, celebrated the most innovative and impactful climate journalism.

Journalists and media professionals from around the world gathered to recognize the winners in each category:

– Data-driven Visualization: “Hot nights” by Süddeutsche Zeitung
– Fighting Climate Misinformation: “How big finance greenwashes climate crisis culprits” by VoxEurop
– Pinpoint Award for Investigations: “Greenwashing made in Europe” by Michelin and BNP Paribas in Indonesia by VoxEurop
– Storytelling & Solutions: “In the Swedish Arctic, a battle for the climate rages” by Coda and The Economist
– Emerging Talent: “Santander arranged billion-dollar oil bond after making a green pledge” by The Bureau for Investigative Journalism

Each category winner received a cash prize of €2,400. The ceremony highlighted the power of journalism in driving climate action and the importance of prioritizing reporting on climate-related issues.

“The goal of the award is to celebrate climate journalism and encourage journalists to prioritize reporting on this critical issue,” said Lars Boering, Director of the European Journalism Centre. “The winning stories demonstrate how climate journalism serves as a public service, informing the public through innovative storytelling and solutions that uncover untold stories about the climate crisis.”

Managed by the European Journalism Centre in partnership with the Google News Initiative, the Climate Journalism Award aims to inspire news organizations to make climate-related coverage a priority while recognizing innovative approaches to storytelling on this topic.

The submissions for the award included 197 eligible entries from 24 countries across Europe, showcasing exceptional journalism that engaged audiences and decision-makers.

The 2024 Climate Journalism Award ceremony was held in conjunction with the 2024 News Impact Summit: Fighting Climate Misinformation. The one-day conference, hosted by the European Journalism Centre in partnership with the Google News Initiative, focused on addressing climate misinformation in the media.
