Xampla, a materials innovation company, is making significant strides in their mission to replace single-use plastic with their plastic-free Morro™ materials. The company has recently announced two new hires and two promotions to their team, in preparation for the global commercialization of their revolutionary product.
Former BioPak UK Director Sam Walker has joined Xampla as Head of Business Development and Sales. Walker brings with him extensive experience in sustainable packaging development for global brands and their supply chain partners. In his role, he will oversee customer relationships worldwide and establish high-value partnerships to meet the growing demand for Morro materials.
Walker’s previous role at BioPak UK as Director of Strategic Partnerships saw him successfully expand the company’s customer base globally, working with brands such as Deliveroo, Dishoom, Morrisons, and Wahaca, as well as supply chain partners like Bunzl. He also served as Technical Director, where he gained a deep understanding of the industry’s legislative and environmental challenges.
Joining Xampla as PR & Communications Manager is David Cohen, who brings over a decade of experience in building the reputations of global science and technology companies, with a focus on sustainability. Cohen’s expertise will be vital in promoting the company’s brand and product on a global scale.
Additionally, Xampla has promoted Scott Thompson and Katrina Curl to the role of Director. Thompson, who previously served as Head of Technology & Development, will now take on the role of Technology Director. He will be responsible for scaling Morro materials through innovation and leading the development of new product offerings.
Curl, who has been with Xampla since 2021 as Head of Marketing & Communications, has been promoted to Marketing & Corporate Affairs Director. She will lead the company’s marketing and corporate affairs efforts globally, building upon the success of the Morro brand that she helped create in 2023. Curl has a wealth of experience in delivering award-winning marketing campaigns for major technology, FMCG, and retail brands.
These appointments come on the heels of a successful $14m Series A funding round for Xampla, which will enable the company to replace 10 billion units of single-use plastic over the next five years. The company has also received recognition for its innovative product, with Morro being the first packaging material to be tested as plastic-free by the National Physical Laboratory, a world leader in measurement science.
CEO of Xampla, Alexandra French, expressed her pride in leading such an outstanding team and the importance of expanding their business development and marketing functions to support global growth. French also commended the team’s hard work in commercializing the technology behind Morro materials and getting it to market.
Sam Walker, the newly appointed Head of Business Development & Sales, commented on his excitement to join Xampla in their mission to make plastic-free packaging mainstream. He is confident that the company’s technology, developed by experts from the University of Cambridge, is capable and ready for the market.
