Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre Celebrates Summer Successes and Historic Restorations
The summer of 2025 at the Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre has been one to remember. With the sun shining and the community coming together, the GXCA team has been hard at work improving facilities and hosting beloved events.
One of the main highlights of the summer was the revitalization of the World War I Memorial Building, originally commissioned in 1926 by renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The elegant space is now home to The Move Room GX, Kiran Deol Tailoring, Sculpt Pilates studio, and the newly restored GXCA Snooker Club. The club is set to officially launch on November 21, 2025, thanks to a generous donation of a 1920s Burroughes & Watts snooker table.
In addition to the historic restoration, the car park underwent vital patch-up works, with a full resurfacing planned for the future. These improvements, along with the support of Gerrards Cross Town Council, further solidify the role of GXCA as the beating heart of the community.
The summer was also filled with events that captured the spirit of Gerrards Cross. From a lively VE Day Lunch and popular Open Mic Night, to the Classic Car Show and the successful return of the Gerrards Cross Summer Fair in August. The annual Jumble Sale in September, which mobilized over 140 volunteers, raised more than £15,000 for the Association.
Looking ahead, the coming months promise even more excitement. Diwali Celebration on October 24, Family Fireworks Night on November 2, and Santa’s Secret Grotto from December 13-24 are just a few of the highly anticipated events. The Grotto, brought to life by award-winning production designer Sonja Klaus, promises enchanting encounters with Santa’s helpers, a candy cane treasure hunt, hot chocolate, and more.
As autumn arrives, the GXCA will welcome back beloved clubs and societies, including the Sailors Association and Art Appreciation, as well as new groups such as Table Tennis and the Gerrards Cross Primary School PTA “Morning Mingles.”
Marcia Bell, Chairman of the Executive Committee, sums up the essence of GXCA: “a place where history, community, and creativity meet.” She adds, “Whether you come to learn, play, celebrate, or simply connect, the Memorial Centre remains the true heart of Gerrards Cross.”
