The latest releases from Cambridge Intelligence aim to address the growing trend of machine-driven narratives in order to support explainable AI.

Cambridge Intelligence, a leading data visualization company, has announced the release of major updates to their KeyLines, ReGraph, and KronoGraph toolkits. These updates are designed to enhance the ability of analysts and investigators to discover, explain, and share the full story behind their data.

According to Cambridge Intelligence, data visualization is a crucial part of the intelligence cycle, where analysts and investigators can uncover the underlying narrative behind complex data. It is also important for them to share this information in a way that is easily understood by a wider audience, especially when the data is generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and needs to be reviewed and explained by human experts. These updates aim to improve the workflow for these professionals.

One of the key features of these updates is a new, fully customizable annotations layer that is available across all three toolkits. This allows analysts to add their insights directly onto the chart, either in the form of long-form text notes or by importing annotations alongside the data. This collaborative approach allows teams to share their findings, contribute their expertise, and further develop the narrative.

The annotations layer is particularly useful when working with AI or machine-generated content, as it adds context and insight to the data, making it more valuable and trustworthy. It also removes ambiguity and helps to explain complex connected data, which is beneficial for use cases such as fraud detection, cybersecurity, law enforcement, and security and intelligence.

In addition, the new annotations layer makes it easier to share and understand data narratives, which is important for case notes, legal evidence, and reports to stakeholders. The annotations are exported as part of timeline and graph visualizations, either as interactive charts or high-resolution images, which can be used in compliance documents, team presentations, or courtroom submissions.

Dan Williams, Head of Product Management at Cambridge Intelligence, says, “With the scale of modern data, the complexity of the threat landscape, and the rise of AI, software companies are rethinking how they explain information to end users. The annotations layer is critical to ensuring that analysts, investigators, and decision makers understand the recommendations, insights, and alerts that modern technology provides.”

The annotations layer is available to customers of KeyLines and ReGraph, Cambridge Intelligence’s graph visualization toolkits for JavaScript and React developers, and KronoGraph, its timeline analytics toolkit. Trial requests can be made at https://cambridge-intelligence.com/try/.
