lavera Forest Project Receives International Recognition for Environmental Efforts

Thursday, July 11th, 2024

The lavera Forest Project, an initiative dedicated to planting trees and promoting sustainability across Europe, has been honored with the 2024 LifeTerra Award in the category of “Most Impactful Organization”. This prestigious award recognizes lavera’s commitment to planting projects with young people in France and Italy, as well as their continuous efforts to increase the number of trees in Europe.

The lavera forest project was launched in 2021 by company founder Thomas Haase, who has been working with nature for 35 years. Haase believes that “nature is the source for all our actions and our habitat as well as the basis for our cosmetics.” This guiding principle is deeply ingrained in lavera’s sustainability strategy and shapes all of their operational processes.

The project is funded through the sale of selected lavera products, with 10 cents from each product automatically going towards the lavera forest project budget. This allows lavera to implement various climate protection projects across Europe, including reforestation, nature conservation, environmental education, and research.

Planting Together for the Future

Thanks to lavera’s efforts, over 45,000 trees have already been planted across Europe, with reforestation projects taking place in the Hanover region, Thuringia, France, and Italy. lavera works closely with experts like Sven Kallen from LifeTerra, who shares their passion for promoting sustainability and biodiversity.

International Recognition for lavera Forest Project

lavera’s collaboration with LifeTerra in France and Italy has earned them the 2024 LifeTerra Award. Sven Kallen, founder of LifeTerra, praised lavera for their “fantastic support for the restoration of nature” and thanked them for their continuous commitment to planting trees and involving future generations in the fight against climate change.

In France, lavera has planted trees in 2023 and 2024 in Château de Chambord’s park, in collaboration with scouts and students. These trees are able to survive in the barren sandy soil with little water and can withstand temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius in the summer.

In 2024, lavera donated around 700 trees and special shrub species for planting projects in Lombardy, the industrial center of Italy. These plantings took place in April and May to strengthen the unique nature of the region and promote its ecological balance. The trees were planted in two significant areas: the historic park of Villa Annoni near Milan and the Cavalleri vineyard in Franciacorta. https://www.lifeterra.eu/de/lavera-naturkosmetik

Preserving Nature for Biodiversity

Sabine Kästner, Sustainability Officer at lavera, stressed the importance of these campaigns, stating, “We are very happy about our intense collaboration with LifeTerra and would like to thank Sven Kallen and his team. We are also very proud of the LifeTerra Award and our first recognition. Planting insect-friendly shrub species for more biodiversity is just as important to us as reforestation with trees, which are vital for the air quality and water balance of a region. They also serve as natural carbon dioxide reservoirs, which is particularly important in densely populated areas like Lombardy or the historically valuable park of Chambord Castle in France. Through our lavera forest project, we are actively combating the challenges of climate change, such as water scarcity and soil dryness.”

In addition to contributing to the important goal of converting forests in a more climate-friendly way and transforming agricultural land or unused areas into forest and biodiversity-friendly areas, lavera’s forest protection project also works with foundations like LifeTerra to make these actions possible for associations or individuals who lack the means to transform natural areas in a climate-friendly way.
