Detroit hosts a powerful pre-Father’s Day literary event spotlighting male authors, mentorship, and storytelling
This Saturday, 7 June, Detroit will welcome the return of the Men of Literature Expo — a dynamic pre-Father’s Day gathering designed to celebrate male voices in literature, promote family reading, and honour the lasting legacy of fatherhood. The event kicks off at 4 p.m. at the Northwest Activities Centre, located at 18100 Meyers Road.
Far more than a traditional book fair, the Men of Literature Expo is a cultural platform where male writers, fathers, mentors, and community figures unite to showcase the transformative power of stories. The event will feature author panels, live readings, meet-the-author sessions, and heartfelt conversations exploring the impact of male role models in nurturing a love of literature.
This year’s event will be hosted by Detroit native Jabril Muhammad – a published author and renowned literacy advocate. Best known for his book “My Future is Bright Because”, Muhammad has worked extensively with youth and underserved groups, empowering them to discover their voice through writing and storytelling. Through his advocacy, he has fostered safe, inclusive spaces for writers to share their journeys and inspire others.
“The Men of Literature Expo is not just about books,” Jabril Muhammad said. “It’s about identity, legacy, and empowering people to tell their stories — especially men whose voices are often overlooked in literary spaces.”
Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.liveinthed.tv, with pre-sale prices at $7 and entry on the door at $10. Attendees are encouraged to bring loved ones and explore unique Father’s Day gift ideas while supporting local writers and creatives.
Join the celebration of wisdom, storytelling, and the fathers who shape generations — one page, one voice, and one story at a time.
