The National Allotment Society is celebrating the best plots in Britain in partnership with GARDENA.

Britain’s Best Plots Honored by National Allotment Society and GARDENA

The National Allotment Society (NAS) is pleased to announce its partnership with GARDENA to sponsor and support the inaugural Top of the Plots competition. This nationwide event celebrates the thriving grow-your-own community in the UK.

“We are proud to have worked with GARDENA to highlight the hard work and dedication of allotment holders and gardeners across the country,” said Mike Farrell, Chairman of the National Allotment Society. “The entries we received were truly inspiring, showcasing everything from well-established plots teeming with biodiversity to creative new growers turning small spaces into beautiful, productive gardens.”

The NAS would like to extend its congratulations to all of the category winners, with special recognition given to overall winner Steve Mills from Barnet, North London. Mills’ impressive allotment, complete with a three-level fruit and flower tunnel, earned him the title of Plot of the Year 2025. The society also recognizes the outstanding contributions of Roger Atkinson, Donna Harris, Victoria Holden, Rebecca Hale, and David Gallacher to the nation’s gardening community.

“These winners exemplify the best of what allotments represent,” Farrell added. “They are places of innovation, wellness, and community. Through their hard work and creativity, they remind us why it is crucial to protect and promote allotments.”

Recent research conducted by the NAS revealed that 91% of allotment holders say their plot has improved their mental health, while 84% report eating more fresh produce since taking on their allotment. In addition, 72% of respondents say their allotment has helped them feel more connected to their local community. Despite rising costs and waiting lists, more than half of those surveyed described their allotment as their “happy place.”

These findings highlight the vital role that allotments play in improving well-being, sustainability, and community resilience across the UK, values that the Top of the Plots competition proudly celebrates.

The National Allotment Society, founded in 1908, is the UK’s leading voice for allotment holders. The society works to protect, promote, and support allotments nationwide. Through advice, advocacy, and research, the NAS ensures that allotments remain accessible, sustainable, and beneficial for communities across the country.
