Nimsdai Purja MBE’s Foundation Announces Two New Initiatives to Empower Women and Girls in Nepal
London, UK – The Nimsdai Foundation, established by renowned mountaineer Nimsdai Purja MBE, has recently revealed two new initiatives that align with its mission to Inspire, Educate, and Protect. These initiatives are aimed at empowering women and girls in Nepal, and they have been met with widespread support and enthusiasm.
The first initiative, called Project Shakti, is a collaboration with Freedom Kit Bags and seeks to address the issue of menstrual injustice in Western Nepal. In some areas of this region, the practice of Chhaupadi continues to exist, wherein menstruating women and girls are considered impure and are forced to leave their homes during this time. This leads to a disruption in their education and work, ultimately resulting in gender inequality.
To combat this issue, Project Shakti is training local women to make reusable menstrual kits and conducting education workshops. By empowering women and girls in the community, this project not only provides them with employment and dignity but also raises awareness among men and challenges social stigma. Each bag costs just £25, and donations can be made on the Nimsdai Foundation website.
The second initiative, known as The Learning Shelter, aims to raise £55,000 to renovate the Mahila Feeder Girls Hostel in Humla, one of Nepal’s most remote and under-resourced regions. This hostel has been a safe haven and educational center for over 900 girls in the past four decades, but it urgently requires structural repairs to continue its life-changing work. Without these renovations, the hostel may have to shut down, leaving the girls in this area without access to education. Donations can also be made for this project on the foundation’s website.
Founder Nimsdai Purja MBE said, “From the mountains to the trails, every step we take together makes a difference. These projects aim to support the communities that need it the most.”
