The Norfolk Archaeological Trust (NAT) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Will Bowden as its new President. Professor Bowden is a renowned expert in Roman archaeology and has a strong passion for heritage and community engagement. He currently holds the position of Professor of Roman Archaeology at the University of Nottingham and has led several significant research projects across Europe and the UK.
One of Professor Bowden’s notable achievements is his extensive work at Caistor St Edmund as part of the Caistor Roman Project. His research has greatly contributed to the understanding of Roman towns and their development. He is also dedicated to making archaeology accessible to all, which aligns with NAT’s mission to protect and promote Norfolk’s archaeological heritage.
Expressing his excitement about his new role, Professor Bowden said, “I am honored to take on the role of President at NAT. Norfolk’s archaeological heritage is exceptional, and I am eager to work with the Trust and local communities to ensure the preservation and celebration of these sites for generations to come.”
NAT’s Board of Trustees Chair, Jonathan Sisson, also shared his enthusiasm about Professor Bowden’s appointment, stating, “We are delighted to have Professor Bowden as our new President. Founded in 1923, NAT is responsible for the ownership and conservation of some of Norfolk’s most iconic historic monuments, including Caistor Roman Town, Burgh Castle Fort, and St Benet’s Abbey. The Trust works closely with local communities to preserve these valuable sites and make them accessible to the public.
