The organization known as STAND has announced the appointment of Daniel Valentine, an award-winning individual, as the new Chair of their Board of Trustees.

STAND, the amputee charity formerly known as Legs4Africa, has announced the appointment of Daniel Valentine as Chair of the Board of Trustees. The announcement was made on Tuesday 25 November, 2025, with Valentine taking up the position immediately.

Valentine brings with him a wealth of experience in public relations and organisational leadership, having held senior roles in both the corporate and charitable sectors for over 30 years. He is a graduate of the University of St. Andrews, Hertford College, Oxford, and King’s College London.

As Chair of the Board, Valentine will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to STAND, ensuring the organisation remains effective in achieving its charitable objectives. He will play a crucial role in helping STAND progress its mission of providing mobility to thousands of amputees in sub-Saharan Africa who do not have access to prosthetic legs or rehabilitation.

In a statement, Valentine expressed his honour at joining the STAND team as Chair, saying, “STAND is a wonderful charity and I am deeply honoured to be joining the team as Chair. I look forward to working with our CEO, my fellow trustees, and the wider organisation to deliver STAND’s mission of changing the lives of amputees in sub-Saharan Africa.”

Valentine’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for STAND, as the organisation opens its new headquarters in The Gambia, West Africa. The organisation is also preparing to deliver a record number of prosthetic legs across sub-Saharan Africa.

Founder of STAND, Tom Williams OBE, spoke highly of Valentine, saying, “A charity is only as good as its trustees, and we have a great opportunity to really shape a strong Board. The challenge ahead of us is big, and we need skillful, values-led leadership to match it. The combined experience of Daniel and our other trustees will help us scale responsibly and stay true to our mission.”

In addition to his role with STAND, Valentine also serves as Chair of Lovey Foundation UK and was recently named Trustee of the Year at the Kent Charity Awards for his work in helping child labourers in Ghana, West Africa, gain access to full-time education. He was also shortlisted for Charity Chair of the Year at the Third Sector Charity Awards 2025.

STAND is a unique charity that collects prosthetic legs, refurbishes their components, and delivers them to rehabilitation partners to be fitted to amputees in sub-Saharan Africa. Their mission is to ensure that all amputees in this region have access to high-quality prosthetics and holistic rehabilitation.
