The partnership agreement between ep Group and GridBeyond was signed to optimize a 50MW battery in North Baddesley.

UK Energy Transition Company and Global Smart Energy Company Partner to Deliver AI-Powered Optimisation Programme for Energy Storage Operations

On Tuesday 25 November, 2025, London was abuzz with news of a new partnership agreement between ep Group, a UK energy transition company, and GridBeyond, a global smart energy company. The partnership aims to deliver an AI-powered optimisation programme for ep Group’s growing energy storage operations.

This partnership comes on the heels of ep Group’s joint venture with Norwegian power systems and battery storage specialist, Pixii AS, which was launched earlier this year. The joint venture was formed to meet the increasing demand for optimised distributed energy systems in the UK.

As part of the partnership, GridBeyond’s Energy Management System and AI-driven optimisation platform will be utilized to optimise a 50MW battery energy storage system (BESS) in North Baddesley, UK. The BESS will also be enrolled in the capacity market, allowing it to access new revenue streams in the UK energy market.

The use of GridBeyond’s advanced technology will enable real-time optimisation, design, forecasting, and trading for the BESS. This will allow for strategic charging and discharging that aligns with market dynamics, ultimately prolonging the life of the batteries. Accurate energy price forecasting will also be utilized to further enhance the BESS’s performance.

Leo Bedford, Partner at ep Group, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with GridBeyond advances our mission to accelerate the shift to distributed, decarbonised, and digitised energy systems. With this partnership, we’re combining GridBeyond’s leading optimisation capabilities with Pixii’s power conversion technology and ep Group’s delivery expertise to help clients transform energy infrastructure into a strategic, value-generating asset.”

Scott Berrie, Director of Origination at GridBeyond, also shared his enthusiasm about the partnership, saying, “We are delighted to work together with ep Group to support their growing BESS portfolio. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to advancing energy storage in the UK and highlights the strength of our AI-driven optimisation capabilities, utilising our market-leading forecasting and asset state-of-health expertise to maximise profits across all markets.”

Berrie added, “Energy storage solutions are essential to enabling the full potential of renewable energy, adding flexibility and reliability across the grid.”

GridBeyond is a company with a clear vision of delivering a global zero carbon future. By leveraging AI, they collaborate with their customers to create optimal value from energy generation, demand, and storage to deliver a zero-carbon future. Their technology allows for every connected asset, whether utility-scale renewables generation, battery storage, or industrial load, to be utilised to help maximise opportunities and enhance the grid.

ep Group, on the other hand, is a specialist energy transition company with operations spanning advisory, sustainable building design, capital investment, and infrastructure delivery. Their subsidiary, ep Pixii, is the exclusive distribution partner for Pixii batteries in the UK.

Together, these two companies are poised to make a significant impact on the UK energy market and support the transition to a Net Zero future. For more information about GridBeyond and ep Group, visit their websites at www.gridbeyond.com and www.epgroup.com, respectively.
