The Pi School has successfully developed an AI virtual expert for Earth observation thanks to the €1M ESA Φ-lab fund.

Pi School and Imperative Space Collaborate with ESA Φ-lab to Develop Cutting-Edge Earth Virtual Expert

In an effort to revolutionize data-driven insights for science, the environment, and society, Pi School has teamed up with Imperative Space to develop a new digital AI expert called EVE (Earth Virtual Expert). This project has been made possible by a generous €1 million budget from the European Space Agency’s Φ-lab.

EVE is a large language model with specialized expertise in Earth Observation (EO) and Earth Sciences. This groundbreaking AI technology is part of the ESA Φ-lab’s #AI4EO initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and Earth Observation.

Pi School’s CEO, Isabelle Andrieu, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, stating, “At Pi School, we believe AI has the power to transform our understanding of the planet. This partnership marks a significant milestone in merging AI and EO, and we are eager to see the impact it will have.”

Nicolas Longépé, Earth Observation Data Scientist at ESA Φ-lab and leader of the EVE project, also shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Pi School’s expertise in AI development, combined with our vision for the future of Earth Observation, makes this collaboration a powerful step towards building innovative solutions.”

The project will include a user-friendly web platform and an API for development applications, allowing seamless integration and accessibility for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals. The long-term goal of the ESA Φ-lab is to create an EO digital assistant that will make complex EO data available to anyone interested in accurate information about Earth Observation topics worldwide.

The EVE Pilot is set to launch in June, giving users the opportunity to be among the first to experience the power of this cutting-edge technology. The pilot version will be available for access via a user-friendly web platform and an API for development applications.
