The Royal Forestry Society (RFS) has announced that it has received the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Charles. This news was received with great honor and excitement by the RFS, as His Majesty becomes the sixth monarch to become their Patron.
His Majesty King Charles has a special connection with the RFS, having served as President during the organization’s centenary year from 1982-1983. RFS President Ben Herbert expressed his gratitude for the continued support from His Majesty, stating that “this patronage continues a very special bond.” He also noted that His Majesty has always shown a keen interest in the work of other foresters and woodland managers, and has been a strong supporter of projects promoting excellence in forestry and increasing skills in woodland management.
During his Presidency, His Majesty played an active role in the RFS and initiated the Duke of Cornwall Cup, which is now presented annually in the Excellence in Forestry Awards for resilient, multi-purpose forestry. He also oversaw the management of The Duchy of Cornwall woodlands, which are now considered among the best in the country. Furthermore, His Majesty’s ongoing support for trees and woods in local communities is evident through his establishment of the Coronation Living Heritage Fund.
The RFS has a long history of royal patronage, with the sovereign serving as Patron since 1905. King Edward VII was the first to consent to become Patron, followed by King George V, King Edward VIII, King George VI, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and now King Charles III. The RFS is proud to have pledged their loyalty to the King during his Coronation, and they hope to welcome him to future RFS events.
The RFS has also expressed their gratitude to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who served as the much-loved and active patron of the organization for 70 years. With the continuous support of the sovereign, the RFS looks forward to continuing their mission of promoting excellence in forestry and woodland management.
