Julia Campbell, artist, pattern designer and Founder of The Silk Road Studio in Cheshire, has introduced her latest surface design collection titled ‘The Secret Garden’. The collection brings together graceful botanical influences, classical chinoiserie elements and organic artistic detailing to create timeless patterns intended for luxury interiors and lifestyle applications.
This new body of work represents a significant milestone in Campbell’s artistic evolution, reflecting her dedication to merging fine art sensitivity with high-end commercial design for discerning clients in home décor, textiles, fashion and boutique heritage brands.
Campbell’s work has already earned global recognition, including being awarded Best Original Design through leading design education platforms such as Immersion 2024. Her creative journey stretches back decades, beginning with studies at West Surrey College of Art & Design, Wisbech College and Nottingham Trent University, where she achieved a First-Class BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing with Communications. Her early professional development was shaped by working alongside the late Hilary Alexander at The Daily Telegraph.
She went on to build a career in communications at Hammond PR and later The Fitzwilliam Museum, University of Cambridge, where she helped promote exhibitions and developed deep insight into cultural storytelling and audience engagement.
The foundation of The Silk Road Studio is also rooted in personal strength. After dedicating many years to family responsibilities, Campbell returned to design professionally in 2017. During the pandemic, her intricate pattern work found renewed global visibility through print-on-demand projects, including bespoke mask designs, introducing her artistic voice to new audiences.
Her work reached another major milestone in 2024, when she was named a top designer in Bonnie Christine’s Immersion Course, selected from more than a thousand participants. This recognition has opened doors to opportunities with British heritage interiors brands such as House of Hackney and other luxury collaborators.
‘The Secret Garden’ captures the outcome of this progression, weaving together layered colour palettes, refined texture and intricate natural motifs to create a sense of elegance, memory and artistic depth.
“Everything I create tells a story,” Julia Campbell said. “My work is about more than decoration – it’s about emotion, memory, and the craftsmanship behind beauty. This collection captures the spirit of renewal and creative freedom that defines where I am now.”
The Silk Road Studio now provides private access to its full design portfolio and accepts bespoke commissions for brands and individuals seeking meaningful, narrative-driven surface pattern design.
Julia Campbell’s journey from cultural PR professional to internationally recognised designer highlights the innovation and resilience shaping the UK’s independent creative sector, positioning The Silk Road Studio as a notable artistic voice to watch in 2025.
