Prime Movr, a renewable energy company, has announced its groundbreaking Laser Power Transmission technology on Wednesday 26 November, 2025. This innovative technology converts optical energy from laser beams into electrical energy, eliminating the need for wires to power electronic devices. With the promise of increased efficiency, longer range, and a wide range of real-world applications, Prime Movr’s Laser Power Transmission technology is set to revolutionize the energy industry.

In recent news, large entities such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Star Catcher Industries, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have been exploring laser power transfer projects. DARPA has a program to transmit power over long distances, while Star Catcher Industries aims to build an orbital power grid for satellites and lunar vehicles. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has also partnered with NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) and conducted successful experiments in transmitting laser power over a kilometer.
Although Prime Movr’s system is smaller in scale compared to these projects, the company believes that its technology can enable a wide range of smaller wireless applications. Co-founder Parvez Rishi stated, “This technology holds a lot of promise for applications such as charging remote sensors and outdoor cameras, where a tethered charging system is not practical.”
In addition to the Laser Power Transmission technology, the founders of Prime Movr are also developing a wireless technology using radio frequency (RF) in collaboration with the University of Kashmir’s Institute of Technology. While the RF technology is being developed, the company recognizes the unique advantages of using laser technology, such as higher energy density and more precise targeting. These advantages make the technology ideal for powering remote, mobile, and hard-to-access electronic systems where traditional wired or inductive charging solutions are not feasible.
Co-founder Rishi commented, “We are excited to add lasers to our collection of wireless power transfer technologies. The ability to transmit focused energy over long distances will have broad appeal across several applications.”
Once scaled-up, the Laser Power Transmission technology can be combined with renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic, wind turbines, and wave energy converters. The harvested energy can then be directly transferred to power electronic devices or stored in batteries for later use. This technology has the potential to enable the implementation of sustainable energy sources without the limitation of wires.
