Cumbrian Women Gear Up for Charity Challenge on Cockermouth High Street

A team of intrepid women from the Centre for Leadership Performance in Cockermouth are preparing for a charity challenge that will test their endurance and determination. The team, led by executive director Sarah Glass, has taken their training to the streets of Cockermouth to prepare for the Virtual Coast to Coast Corporate Challenge, a 171-mile long-distance journey across the UK.

The challenge, organized by Cumbria Community Foundation to mark its 25th anniversary, aims to raise funds for the Cumbria Fund, which supports local good causes. The challenge will see teams from businesses across the county participating in a virtual version of the iconic Coast to Coast route, from St Bees Head in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire.

Thankfully, the participants won’t have to actually walk the entire route, but can complete the distance through various forms of exercise such as walking, running, swimming, or using a static exercise bike or rowing machine. The challenge will kick off on May 20 and must be completed by July 1.

Andy Beeforth, chief executive of Cumbria Community Foundation, encourages more businesses to sign up for the challenge, saying, “This is a brilliant way for businesses and our corporate supporters to raise money for local causes. We also hope it will be a fun way for companies and their staff to join together and give back to their community.”

The Centre for Leadership Performance is one of the businesses that has already signed up for the challenge. Sarah Glass is excited to participate, saying, “We’re delighted to celebrate 25 years of the Cumbria Community Foundation, and the fantastic work they do, by taking part in the Virtual Coast to Coast Challenge. Over the years, we have been beneficiaries of some of their grants, enabling us to continue our work promoting lifelong learning and ensuring that better leadership equals better lives for the people of Cumbria.”

Businesses interested in participating can register online at: https://www.cumbriafoundation.org/virtual-coast-to-coast-corporate-challenge-2024/. The challenge is a great opportunity for businesses to come together, support local causes, and celebrate the achievements of the Cumbria Community Foundation.
