International Animal Rescue has stepped in to support the care and healing of two sloth bear cubs, Jimmy and Jenny, who were rescued in heartbreaking circumstances in the forests and villages of central India.
According to reports, the two cubs, who were just a few months old, were found in separate incidents, far from the safety of their mothers. Jimmy was discovered huddled beneath a culvert on a busy highway near Bandhavgarh National Park, while Jenny was found beside her injured mother in a remote village.
Despite efforts to locate their mothers, it became clear that the cubs had been orphaned and needed immediate intervention. The Madhya Pradesh Forest Department, along with the expert teams at Wildlife SOS, stepped in to provide emergency care for the cubs. Jimmy was first taken to Bandhavgarh for treatment and was later transferred to the Van Vihar Bear Rescue Facility in Bhopal, while Jenny was moved to the Agra Bear Rescue Facility.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Wildlife SOS’s veterinary team, both cubs are now on the road to recovery. Jimmy, who was malnourished and terrified when he was rescued, is now showing signs of his playful spirit. Jenny, on the other hand, arrived at the Agra facility with signs of severe stress and digestive issues, but is now slowly gaining weight and becoming more active.
Alan Knight OBE, President of International Animal Rescue, expressed his pride in supporting the treatment and care of the cubs, stating, “Jimmy the bear is in safe hands now and stands every chance of living a long and happy life.”
Kartick Satyanarayan, Co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS, also highlighted the efforts being made to provide the cubs with the best possible care, stating, “Thanks to swift action and dedicated care, Jimmy and Jenny are getting the second chance they deserve.”
However, the road to recovery for the cubs is a costly one, with specialised nutrition, veterinary treatments, and psychological enrichment all necessary for their well-being. International Animal Rescue is calling for urgent donations to support the long-term care and well-being of Jimmy and Jenny, and is urging individuals to contribute to their recovery by donating on their website.
With the support of IAR and the efforts of Wildlife SOS, Jimmy and Jenny are now on a journey from joyless to joyful, and with continued care and support, they will have the chance to live the life they deserve.
