The official kick-off meeting for the EcoPlast (Empowering Circular Operations in the Automotive Plastics Value Chain) project was held on 24-25 June, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Manchester, UK. The event was hosted by project coordinator Technovative Solutions Limited (TVS).

The 36-month project aims to transform the automotive plastics value chain through the use of digital solutions that promote circularity, non-toxicity, and durability of secondary materials. EcoPlast will be a game-changer for the circular economy, utilizing recycling, upcycling, and reuse strategies. It will also incorporate a blockchain-enabled Digital Product Passport (DPP) for traceability, a circular marketplace to promote sustainable business practices, and tools such as the Circularity Index (CI), ecoDesign, and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). The project will also integrate AI, robotics, and Digital Twins (DTs) to optimize processes.

The kick-off meeting was attended by the project coordinator Technovative Solutions Ltd. and its consortium members, including Ford Otomotiv Sanayi A.S., Stellantis, Stryker, Assan Hanil, Adler Pelzer Group, Eurotec, Proplast, Beker Recycle, Autodemolizione Pollini, Sabancı University, Brunel University London, Cardiff University, İstanbul University, Simularge Global, Kordsa, and DigiProd Pass Ltd. The consortium will work collaboratively over the next three years on 8 work packages and 9 use cases to ensure the success of the project.

On the first day of the meeting, the project and its partners were introduced to the attendees. The focus of the day was on discussing the use cases and work packages. In the evening, the partners enjoyed a social dinner, where they had the opportunity to engage and network with each other. The following day, TVS led two workshops, one on “Project KPI definition and specification” and the other on “Requirement analysis for UC demonstrations.” The final day of the meeting included the general assembly of the project and an open discussion.

The EcoPlast project has received funding from the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (HORIZON) Research & Innovation Actions under grant agreement No 101182147.
