White Ribbon UK Welcomes Publication of Angiolini Inquiry Report
London, UK – On Thursday 29 February, 2024, White Ribbon UK welcomed the publication of the Angiolini Inquiry, Part 1 Report and the recommendations it set out. As the leading organisation engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women and girls, White Ribbon UK is pleased to see the report address the issue of harmful attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate violence against women and girls.
The report, which was published on 29th February 2024, highlights the need for everyone to play a part in preventing these seemingly ‘harmless’ attitudes and behaviors from contributing to a culture of violence against women and girls. White Ribbon UK is particularly pleased with Recommendation 14, which calls on police forces to publicly commit to being an anti-sexist, anti-misogynistic, anti-racist organization in order to address and eradicate these harmful attitudes.
Anthea Sully, Chief Executive of White Ribbon UK, emphasizes the importance of men taking responsibility for calling out dangerous attitudes and positively influencing their friends and colleagues. She states, “These comments and behaviors perpetuate a culture of violence that all men should be challenging and rejecting. It is men’s responsibility to call out dangerous attitudes and positively influence their friends and colleagues to contribute to a safer society for women.”
The report also highlights the need for women’s experiences to be listened to and taken seriously. White Ribbon UK stands with Sarah Everard’s family and all women affected by violence, and recognizes that everyone has the right to live their lives free from the fear of and actual violence. The organization remains committed to working with decision makers and organizations to support positive cultural change that rejects misogynistic and violent attitudes and behaviors.
While White Ribbon UK welcomes the publication of the Part 1 Report, they also eagerly await the publication of Part 2 of the Report. The organization remains dedicated to working towards a society where women can live without fear of violence and discrimination.
