On Sunday 20 August, 2023 the Youth Sport Trust celebrated the Lionesses for their historic achievement of reaching the World Cup Final. Despite the heartbreaking result, the team have been an inspiration to many, with their passion for the game encouraging more women and girls to take up football.
The tournament has demonstrated the power of sport to bring people together and create hope. The Lionesses’ manager, Sarina Wiegman, has been instrumental in creating a team of players with a shared goal.
Thanks to the Lionesses, attitudes towards female sport have changed for the better. They have provided more opportunities for young women and girls to get involved in sport and have set up pathways for them to reach their potential.
