In a groundbreaking achievement, the Volkswagen ID Buzz has been converted into a fully functioning electric campervan for the first time, complete with a pop-up roof that provides additional space.
TC Conversions, a specialist conversion company based in New Abbot, has undertaken the task of creating the first fully developed camper on this platform. They believe this electric campervan will serve as a “gateway vehicle,” encouraging more people to switch to electric campervanning.
Known for their professional and high-quality conversions, TC Conversions has successfully transformed the Volkswagen ID Buzz into a camper that offers over 210 miles of usable range. The converted vehicle features all the essential amenities one would expect in a modern campervan, including sleeping accommodations for four, an elevated pop-top roof, a rock ‘n’ roll bed, a fridge, running water, and off-grid electrics.
This unique conversion also includes integrated blinds, an induction hob that operates without gas, and a sink. The appliances can be used both inside and outside the vehicle and can be easily lowered for convenience when needed.
All of the appliances run on electricity from the vehicle or from an onboard power pack. Additionally, a solar panel has been installed on the elevated roof to help charge the power pack while off-grid. The campervan also offers main hook-up capabilities for recharging the battery.
Derek Thomas, the Managing Director at TC Conversions, expressed his excitement about this pioneering creation, stating, “We believe that this ID Buzz campervan will be the gateway vehicle for people switching to electric campervanning, given the heritage of the iconic VW camper vans of the past.” He further emphasized that this conversion represents one of the first proper campervan layouts for the ID Buzz and is truly groundbreaking.
Recommended for small families and couples approaching retirement age, the ID Buzz Campervan conversion is now available for orders. Each vehicle is made to order and takes approximately two months to complete. Priced at £82,000, potential buyers can secure their vehicle with a £3,000 holding fee, with finance options also available.
