Aspire, a national charity that provides support to those paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury, has announced the launch of its 24th Aspire Channel Swim. The challenge invites participants to cover the distance of the English Channel – 22 miles – in 12 weeks via swimming pools, lakes or the sea.
The swim will take place from 18th September to 11th December, and is free to join. Swimmers can take part alone or as part of a team with friends, family, or a swim school. All ages and abilities are welcome, with those who raise £10 or more receiving a swim hat and those who raise £25 or more receiving a medal.
Angie, who is taking part in her 11th Aspire Channel Swim, said: “I love swimming because of the freedom and relaxation it brings. The challenge provides me with the focus to swim a certain distance in a set time, and also helps a great cause.”
Jackie, who only learned to swim at 41, is taking part in the challenge for the tenth time this year. She said: “I love having a target to aim for. Knowing that I’m making a difference to people with spinal cord injuries is a great motivator.”
Katy Boyd, who manages the Aspire Channel Swim, said: “Our swimmers have raised over £7 million for people with spinal cord injuries, helping us to support thousands of people each year. We’d love to see people joining us in different ways. Sign up for free today and conquer the Channel with us.”
