Codasip has successfully received certification for automotive functional safety and cybersecurity.

Codasip®, a leader in RISC-V Custom Compute, has announced that it has achieved certification for ISO 26262 and ISO/SAE 21434 for its IP hardware development processes. The certification was audited and certified by TÜV SÜD, a trusted and independent certification body.

According to the company’s vice president of automotive and products, Jamie Broome, this achievement marks a significant milestone in Codasip’s commitment to delivering a holistic solution for safety and security needs. Broome also mentioned that the company’s next step is to certify key parts of their product portfolio to support automotive OEMs looking to differentiate their products through Custom Compute.

Codasip believes that there is a strong need for a holistic approach to safety and security in the automotive industry. With the increasing complexity of vehicle systems and the use of wireless technology, such as over-the-air updates, it takes only one weak link to compromise the entire system. Therefore, incorporating robust security and safety measures into processors is crucial to safeguard against failures and malicious attacks.

In October 2023, Codasip made headlines by announcing the first commercially licensable implementation of the fine-grained memory protection technology CHERI. The company believes that this technology, combined with certified development processes, will pave the way for the next generation of safe and secure processors based on Codasip RISC-V processor cores.

The ISO 26262 standard applies to all activities during the safety lifecycle of safety-related systems in road vehicles, while ISO/SAE 21434 addresses the cybersecurity perspective in engineering of electrical and electronic systems within road vehicles. Codasip’s development process has been certified according to relevant clauses of these standards.

Codasip is a processor technology company that offers a unique solution for system-on-chip developers to differentiate their products and gain a competitive advantage. Through their Custom Compute offering, which includes Codasip Studio design automation tools and a fully open architecture licensing model, customers can easily customize their processor IP. The company serves a global market and has enabled billions of devices with its technology.
