Edison Podcast Metrics, the comprehensive measurement of podcast listening provided by Edison Research, is set to debut in the UK. The announcement was made during the Podcast Show 2023 event in London.
Unlike other podcast measurement services that rely on download data or require podcast networks to opt-in, Edison Podcast Metrics offers a unique approach. The service conducts quarterly surveys of thousands of weekly podcast listeners, collecting data on listening behavior across various platforms.
Edison Research, a leading podcast research company globally, initially introduced its Top Podcast Shows ranker in the US back in November 2019. The company has been tracking podcast consumption on a broader scale since 2006. The data from Edison Podcast Metrics is widely used by major podcasting companies and advertising agencies in the US.
The survey research for Edison Podcast Metrics is currently underway in the UK, and data from Q2 2023 will be available to subscribers in Q3. The same methodology used in the US will be employed, with a minimum of 2,000 weekly podcast listeners aged 15 and above included in each quarterly survey.
While only a partial measurement for the quarter is currently available, with shows like “The Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett,” “The Joe Rogan Experience,” “Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster,” “The Rest is Politics,” and “Shagged Married Annoyed” appearing among the top five podcasts among UK weekly podcast listeners in April 2023, a comprehensive list of the top podcasts from Q2 will be released in Q3.
Melissa Kiesche, Senior Vice President at Edison Research, expressed enthusiasm for expanding Edison Podcast Metrics to the UK, highlighting the positive impact the data has had on the US podcast industry. The company is eager to see the thriving podcast community in the UK benefit from this research.
Edison Podcast Metrics UK will provide detailed information on the top podcasts in the country, along with network reach statistics. Subscribers will have access to demographic analysis of podcast listeners, including their purchasing and consumption patterns across a wide range of consumer goods and services.
