Founder and director of the DSM Foundation recieves OBE from King

Fiona Spargo-Mabbs, founder and director of the DSM Foundation, was awarded an OBE by King Charles during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, July 11th, 2023. Fiona was presented the honour in recognition of her work with young people and her establishment of the drugs education charity the DSM Foundation.

In 2014, Fiona’s son Daniel passed away after taking an accidental overdose of ecstasy, leading to the creation of the charity. Fiona commented: “It was such a special day, and an enormous honour to be given this level of recognition for the work of the DSM Foundation, and to receive it from the King himself – but it was also deeply bittersweet, weighted as it was with the loss of Dan, without which none of this would have happened.”

The DSM Foundation was created with the aim to provide young people with evidence-based information about drugs, enabling them to make informed decisions that will keep themselves and their friends safe. In addition, caregiver workshops are offered to adults involved in the lives of those young people to give them the knowledge and skills to provide appropriate support and advice.
