Montreaux Homes, the home counties division of Montreaux Group, has successfully completed the purchase of the former Ritz Cinema site in Wokingham. The site comes with existing planning permission for a three-story development comprising 22 apartments, undercroft parking, and communal garden space.
Located in a prime residential area within the heart of Wokingham, the site enjoys excellent proximity to the train station, just a 10-minute walk away. The architectural character of the surrounding area reflects the significant growth it experienced during the 19th century, with Victorian-style houses lining Easthampstead Road.
Historically, the site housed the Art Deco Ritz Cinema, which opened its doors in 1937 and was renowned as one of the finest cinemas of its kind in the UK.
Recognising the site’s historical significance, the developers are committed to collaborating with local authorities to ensure that the new homes blend seamlessly with the local architectural style.
James Rowntree, Managing Director of Montreaux Homes, commented on their approach, stating, “Drawing from our experience with Urban Picturehouse, our development on a former landmark site in Sidcup, we understand the importance of building on the legacy of significant buildings. We are excited to leverage our expertise in delivering the approved scheme and working closely with the local authority to create a development that enhances the community’s amenities.”
The demand for apartments in Wokingham is strong, and Montreaux believes that the development’s convenient location near the train station and town centre will make it a popular and sustainable choice. The company is currently reviewing the existing planning design while taking into account feedback from the council and the local community.
Montreaux Homes specialises in creating landmark developments and bespoke homes across London, the Southeast, and key cities in the UK. They acquire land and buildings, often repurposing brownfield sites in urban areas close to public transportation hubs, with the aim of bringing positive transformation to towns, cities, and communities.

Regarding the Wokingham site, Richard Rowsell MRICS, Land Director at Montreaux Homes, expressed their commitment to sustainable and high-quality development, stating, “This site perfectly aligns with our vision to ‘Build Back Better.’ We are excited to introduce top-tier housing, sustainable technology, and biodiverse garden spaces to enhance the local area.”
The acquisition of the former Ritz Cinema site in Wokingham marks another significant step forward for Montreaux Homes in their mission to create exceptional developments that contribute positively to communities.
