Terra Firma Energy Unveils New Wingrave Project: Advancing Transitional Fuel Solutions

Leading UK independent power producer (IPP), Terra Firma Energy, is excited to announce the acquisition of land and development rights for its latest venture, the Wingrave project. This innovative transitional fuel power plant aims to deliver reliable and flexible electricity to the grid, further strengthening Terra Firma Energy’s diverse portfolio of power generation assets across the UK. The project follows the successful completion of the St Helens project and the 50% milestone achievement of the Wrexham project.

Situated on farmland at Thistlebrook Farm near Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard, the Wingrave project was chosen for its minimal environmental impact, surrounded by farmland and solar power parks, and its convenient access to gas and grid connections. With a planned generation capacity of 50 megawatts, the plant will supply electricity to over 25,000 homes annually for the next seven years through a power purchase agreement with EDF.

Featuring hydrogen-compatible turbines, the Wingrave project aims to address the challenges faced by the UK energy market, including increasing volatility and vulnerability resulting from the reliance on weather-driven renewable power sources and the decommissioning of coal and nuclear plants. Terra Firma Energy’s gas-fired power plants provide a scalable and on-demand solution that can balance the grid and ensure a secure energy supply for the country. Moreover, the project is poised to benefit from the surge in wholesale electricity prices, which have risen by 385% over the past three years.

William Davies, Managing Director of Terra Firma Energy, expressed his enthusiasm for the Wingrave project, describing it as a significant milestone in their growth strategy. Davies emphasized the company’s commitment to supplying essential flexible power generation to the UK grid while creating value for shareholders and stakeholders. The development process for the project is expected to take 18 months, with operations slated to commence in Q1 2025. Throughout this period, Terra Firma Energy will work closely with local authorities and residents to ensure compliance with all necessary planning and environmental requirements.

Terra Firma Energy’s dedication to sustainable energy solutions and their continuous efforts to contribute to the local community are evident in the Wingrave project. The development will not only create employment opportunities but also generate economic benefits for the surrounding area.
