The role of ego in leadership is explored in a new, important book.

New Book Explores the Crucial Role of Ego in Leadership

London, 26 February 2024 – Today marks the release of Ego Flip, a groundbreaking new book written by Korn Ferry Partner James Woodcock. In this thought-provoking read, Woodcock delves into the complex relationship between leaders, their ego, and the success of their company. Through his radical new paradigm, he challenges conventional views of leadership and offers a transformative approach to leading.

At the core of Woodcock’s argument is the importance of self-awareness for effective leadership. He asserts that leaders must first understand themselves and their egoic states before they can truly understand and lead others. In Ego Flip, he presents his seven questions of leadership, followed by seven “elucidations of leadership” – tools to help readers transform their leadership style and achieve greater success.

According to Woodcock, “In today’s rapidly changing world, knowing who you are is the most important question of leadership. By understanding where you are looking from, you can break free from being led and become a true leader.” With this book, he aims to help leaders everywhere discover their true selves and unleash their full potential.

One of the key elements of Ego Flip is a new leadership manifesto – eight conscious imperatives that offer a fresh perspective on transcending the ego and leading beyond it. This innovative approach has already garnered praise from leaders in the industry. L. David Marquet, author of Turn the Ship Around and Leadership is Language, says, “Ego Flip earns my highest praise. It got me thinking. In this cerebral tract, Woodcock cracks a door open where we can begin to understand how our own sense of ‘us’ may not be what we think it is.”

Woodcock brings a wealth of experience to this book, with over 20 years of working with leaders around the world to help them reach their full potential. He is currently a Partner in Korn Ferry’s Leadership and Professional Development Practice and has also held positions at PA Consulting and Deloitte.

Ego Flip is published by LID Publishing and will be available in paperback and e-book formats from 14 March 2024.
