The West End is brought to Ashtead by the Ashtead Players.

Ashtead Players, a renowned local theatre company, will be bringing the excitement and energy of the West End and Broadway to Ashtead with their upcoming production of ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ by Richard Bean. The highly anticipated show will run from 24 to 27 April 2024 at the Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall, located at The Street, Ashtead KT21 2BE.

The play gained widespread recognition after popular actor and comedian James Corden wowed audiences in the lead role of Francis. During the recent lockdown, the London production of the play was broadcasted on television, providing viewers with a much-needed source of entertainment and laughter.

Director Paul Andrews expressed his enthusiasm for the show, stating that “‘One Man Two Guvnors’ was a smash hit in the West End and on Broadway, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring it to Ashtead. We have assembled an incredible cast and crew and are excited to showcase the talents of a local band who have written and arranged new songs specifically for this production. It promises to be a fantastic night of entertainment.”

The play is set in 1963 Brighton and follows the story of Francis Henshall, an unemployed skiffle player who is hired by two men – Roscoe Crabbe, a gangster, and Stanley Stubbers, an upper-class gentleman. Francis must keep the two from meeting in order to prevent them from discovering that he is working for both of them. However, things become complicated when Roscoe is revealed to be Rachel Crabbe, his twin sister in disguise. To add to the chaos, Roscoe has been murdered by Rachel’s boyfriend, who happens to be none other than Stanley Stubbers. As the plot thickens, local mobster Charlie the Duck and his daughter Pauline, who is engaged to Roscoe but has her eyes on amateur actor Alan Dangle, add to the mix of hilarious confusion.

Performances will be held at 7.45pm from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 April 2024, with a matinee show at 2.30pm on Saturday.
